In addition to already being a major blockbuster for Sony, Horizon: Zero Dawn is an even bigger deal for developer Guerrilla Games, as the sales figures mark the studio’s “biggest debut” in the company’s history. In order to tally up the official numbers, Sony has stated that the figure of 2.6 million copies includes the combination of physical discs sold to consumers and digital units sold through the PlayStation Store.

Without a doubt, Horizon: Zero Dawn’s successful debut is enough to warrant celebration for both Sony and Guerrilla Games. As a matter of fact, Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss Shawn Layden offered up a statement expressing his gratitude to the fans for spending their hard-earned money on the action-RPG and praising the developer for its work on the game.

Of course, with Horizon: Zero Dawn being the “biggest debut” for the Killzone developer Guerrilla Games, it’s a much bigger win for the studio overall. As it happens, Guerrilla Games’ managing director, Hermen Hulst, stepped up to provide his own statement on the news of Horizon: Zero Dawn’s sales success to thank the fans for supporting his team’s project.

While many are certainly still steeped in exploring the full open world of Horizon: Zero Dawn, some may be wondering what the future holds for the game as far as post-launch content is concerned. Interestingly enough, Hulst went on to tease the eventual inclusion of a story expansion for the title, but didn’t offer any details as to what the DLC could contain or when it would be released. With that being the case, it could be possible for one of Horizon: Zero Dawn’s add-ons to focus on a character other than the principal figure of Aloy, as the developer has already hinted at the potential for forthcoming sequels to star different protagonists.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is out now for PlayStation 4.
